John McGlinchey consults in the Commercial division of Etheringtons. Having joined the firm in 2003, John brings many years of experience in commercial legal consulting to Etheringtons and is a valued asset to our clients.
John’s early years of general experience in country legal firms was followed by specialised work with a large international law firm, giving him a deep understanding of the many and varied commercial problems clients face.

INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
John began practicing as a solicitor in a regional practice before starting at Allens Arthur Robinson in 1964 (then known as Allen Allen & Hemsley). John became partner in 1967 in the commercial division, and acted for a wide range of mining, corporate and commercial clients, including Cottees General Foods, Siemens, Kentucky Fried Chicken. Furthermore, during the mining boom of the 1970’s John acted for a variety of mining companies, most notably acting for Woodlaw Mines Tarago in a case that was successful before the Privy Council in 1973. John’s consulting began in 1993 with Allens and continued at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in 1995 for 5 years. John has continued in his consulting capacity since this time.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Beginning his legal career as an Articled Clerk in regional NSW, John went on to study with the Solicitor’s Admission Board and was admitted as a Solicitor in 1950. After being a partner in a firm in Grafton for 10 years, John went on to work for Allen Allen & Hemsley in Sydney in 1964, becoming partner in 1967.
