SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Karen was admitted as a legal practitioner in 2000. She commenced with Etheringtons Solicitors in 2011 where she works in the area of family law. Karen is able to assist with all aspects of family law: parenting arrangements for children, property settlements, spousal maintenance, child support, relocation, Hague convention, separation, divorce, financial agreements (pre-nuptial, post-nuptial), termination agreements and de facto relationships.
In her work at Etheringtons, Karen is able to draw on her previous work experience and her varied background. From 2007 to 2010, she worked as a Family Lawyer in Parramatta, where she also dealt with Wills and Estates and employment matters. From 2002 to 2006, she Practiced at the Sydney Bar, in particular, in family law, Wills and Estates, employment, guardianship and health-related matters. While at the Bar, she gained skills in litigation, advocacy and dispute resolution which she applies in family law matters.
Prior to commencing in the legal field, Karen had an extensive career in the health system where she worked in clinical and community roles as a Pharmacist and a Dietitian, before progressing to senior planning and administrative roles in the NSW health system and the NSW public sector. Karen’s studies in a Masters of Health Personnel Education assisted with her career progression and enhanced her communication, education and presentation skills. Such skills are vital in all matters and ensure she is able to communicate at various levels and present cases effectively. Her health and medical expertise is invaluable when dealing with matters which have health and medical implications or components and she can refer to her public sector background when employment issues arise.

Karen Thompson. Prior to undertaking a law degree, our senior associate solicitor, Karen Thompson, has had extensive experience in the health and medical field, both in senior administrative roles and in clinical roles as a Pharmacist and Dietician. She has also worked at the HCCC.
